Overview

Diane Whalley is an abstract artist, based in Cornwall. She paints intuitively from both personal reflections and the imagination, often using playful gestures which dance over the canvas bringing positivity, fun, joy and discussion. Personal lived experiences of sudden loss, moving to Cornwall and travelling the Mediterranean by sailboat, have greatly influenced the artist and her process for painting. Starting with a thought, idea, memory or emotion, each piece emerges guided by intuition and imagination, often resulting with vibrant visual narratives. She often has several paintings on the go at any one time which she keeps revisiting and layering over a number of days and sometimes weeks until she is happy with the final composition.

After graduating with a BA (hons) degree in graphic design, Diane spent a number of years in design and PR, before she began her journey with painting in 2016 and has been full-time since 2019. Following a successful London Show early 2020, demand for her work escalated from both art collectors and interior designers.

Diane now works from her garden studio at her home on the outskirts of Fowey where she continues to draw inspiration from the surrounding countryside, landscape, coastal life, travels and memories of her family Mediterranean adventure.

She has exhibited widely and has taken part in several shows across the UK. Her work can be found in private collections across the UK and around the world including America, Singapore, Columbia, Switzerland, Paris, Australia, Italy, Ireland and South Africa.
